RESPECT ADOPTIVE PARENTS

 Research
Why are children abandoned?
  • Poverty and homelessness are often causes of abandonment.

  • In societies where women are looked down upon for being teenage or single mothers, child abandonment is more common.

  • Children born out of extra marital affairs may be abandoned to prevent being shamed.

  • Children who are born with congenital disorders or other health complications may be abandoned because they cannot be cared for.

  • The girl child is more likely to be abandoned due to cultural bias.

  • Political conditions, such as war and displacement of a family, are also cause for abandonment.

Behavioural Aspects
  • People avoid adoption because they want their own genes, blood and lineage.

  • Due to the belief that the parent-child bond is created between the age of 0-2 years, children between this age group are preferred.

  • Children with special needs are not preferred.

  • Skin colour is important.

  • No knowledge about the process of adoption.

  • The fear of how society will react.

  • Elderly parents of the couple and other family members are unwilling to accept adoption.

The task was to pick one section from society or the environment that should be respected but is not and to create a campaign for awareness. Here, from the various sections of people in society, adoptive parents have been chosen.

By adopting a child, the parents are giving an abandoned child access to a better life, love, care, education and the safety of a home and family. Therefore, adoptive parents should be respected.

Problem Statement

Parents who opt for adoption are not given due respect. They must not only be respected, but also helped, supported and appreciated for their stance instead of being put down by family, friends and society.

Proposal

To create a campaign so as to spread awareness in society about the respect that should be given to people who opt for adoption, thus bettering the life of a child who would otherwise have nothing.
