Existing website

  • There is no home button

  • Too much text on the home page makes it confusing

  • No indication of which page the user is currently on

  • Options listed are randomly repeated as icons

  • Some pages have a button to go back to the home page at the bottom of the page

  • No consistency in font sizes

  • Some options have been repeated on different pages making the list of options long and confusing

  • Hierarchy has not been followed

  • No mention of the official app (for electricity)

  • Disabled friendly mode does not work

  • Even though the chosen language is English, the captions for pictures in the gallery are in Marathi

The task was to select a website that has a lot of usability issues, identify them and redesign the website so as to create a better user experience

The BEST Undertaking is the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport Undertaking of the Brihanmumbai Mahanagarpalika. The website offers services such as payment of electricity bills, information regarding bus services and also serves as a portal for employees, to name a few.

Findings
  • The contents of the website are not properly organized

  • The website is used more for the electricity section than for the transport section

  • In electricity, the website is used for payment of bills, new connection application (only happens online), change of name, complaints

  • In transport, the website is used for information on routes, depots and lost and found items

  • Features such as registration and renewal of passes and smartcards must be added

  • The contents should be well categorized for better understanding
